The kind that most kids can hardly even imagine.
One of my best and oldest friends, Iapos;ve known for for 12 years or so, was admitted to a mental institution last Wednesday. It is her second stay there.
Last Wednesday I was asked by one of our friends if Iapos;d seen this kid, but I said I hadnapos;t. I have no classes with them, and I eat lunch in the library, so Iapos;m pretty isolated from everyone. Anyway, I was out of school that Thursday with stomach flu, so I didnapos;t see anyone. We had off Friday, then it was the weekend, and Monday finally came. I didnapos;t seem them yesterday. I didnapos;t see them today.
I took a quiz I missed from last Thursday in the library during my study hall; the other two library aides were out [[Alison delivered the attendance slips, but I ahve no idea where Clayton was.]] so it was just me and the librarian, Mrs. K. Mrs. K. Stood next to me and said if I didnapos;t feel comfortable talking about it [what she was going to mention] that it was okay. Immediately, my mind was jabbering "Ohnoohnoohno" and my stomach twisted. She asked if Iapos;d seen my friend, or if I knew what had happened. I said I didnapos;t, and Mrs. K. Was surprised, since I am one of the kidapos;s closest friends [[We havenapos;t been too close lately, though; conflicting schedules.]] She told me my friendapos;s in the hospital/facility/whatever again. The peer listener lady [[essentially a counselor]] doesnapos;t know when my friend will be back. She thought theyapos;dapos;ve been out by Friday.
What could have gone wrong?
Iapos;m...scared. I donapos;t know what I can do for my friend. They told me about their first "visit", and it was like a little living nightmare. Itapos;s run like a boot camp...thatapos;s the image they conveyed, at least.
And the thing is, they would never admit themselves into such a place. I know them, and they would never do that. Somethingapos;s going on at home. Their mom must be going completely bugf*ck with Grandad at home. [[She went out East to get her dad...heapos;s senile and old and just plain annoying in that "gettinapos; too old to function properly" way.]] Sheapos;s always been pretty unstable-ish...divorced, a single mom with a lazy ex-husband [[whose wife is an utter b*tch to her husbandapos;s children...her son is a fat, precious angel, though. Heaven forbid he could ever be in the wrong.]]...two head-strong children to raise essentially by herself, one of which is in college so theyapos;re kind of "away" from the issues here... I mean, Mom does her best, but itapos;s best what or for who that should be noted. She works hard, but the stress of it all gets vented at home...the place that is supposed to be a sanctuary for children.
Itapos;s just so upsetting. Majorly upsetting, actually. My friend is the most ideal person anyone could ever hope to meet and have the privlege of getting to know as a friend. Iapos;ve seen them laugh, cry, get angry, get frustrated, work through school and struggle through family issues...and they only complain to the closest people they know. Telling a stranger about a problem puts too much weight on them that they donapos;t deserve, thatapos;s how they think. For them, showing weakness of any kind to the public eye is the same as painting a bullapos;s-eye on their forehead. Better to suffer in silence than make others suffer with them...

My whole view could be skewed, since I donapos;t know 100 of the story, and what I know is essentially hearsay, but...I donapos;t care.

I just want them to come home.
